Our Story

The philosophy behind the Philippines' first letter-writing café.

Guest writing a letter at Dear Joe

A Letter That Started It All

Dear Joe was born in 2021, during a time when the world was reminded of what truly matters — meaningful human connection. Inspired by Manny Villar's own decades-long practice of writing handwritten love letters to his wife Cynthia, the concept was simple: create a café where people are invited to slow down and write.

"The idea behind Dear Joe is simple, romantic and quaint, possibly old-fashioned," Villar has said. "The coffee shop is the perfect setting to do something that has been lost because of the rise of modern communications technologies — write letters; handwritten letters."

As the sister brand of The Coffee Project and a Vista Land concept, Dear Joe pairs premium café culture with a deeply personal ritual. Every branch is a letter waiting to be written — designed with lush greenery, floor-to-ceiling windows, and the warmth of a place that believes handwriting is the most intimate language of all.

What Dear Joe Believes In

The Written Word

We believe handwriting is deeply personal — both to the writer and the recipient. When you open an envelope and unfold a letter inside, you know someone spent time and effort crafting it just for you.

Meaningful Connection

In a world of quick replies and fleeting messages, we are a haven for depth. We create the space — you create the connection. Whether to a loved one, an old friend, or your future self.

Coffee & Comfort

Great letters deserve great company. Our specialty coffee, fresh juices, artisan pastries, and hearty mains are crafted to make every visit feel like an occasion worth writing about.

Five Things We Stand For

01

Slowness as a Virtue

We celebrate the unhurried moment — the pause before writing, the breath between sips. Speed is not always progress; sometimes the best things begin with stillness.

02

Authenticity Over Algorithm

A handwritten letter cannot be automated. It cannot be mass-produced. It carries the fingerprint of the person who wrote it — and that authenticity is something we protect in every corner of our brand.

03

Beauty in the Details

From the ceramic plates our pastries rest on, to the letterboxes waiting for your envelopes, to the curated greenery lining our windows — every detail is considered, intentional, and worth noticing.

04

Community & Belonging

Dear Joe is for everyone who has ever wanted to say something they couldn't quite find the words for in a message. It is for solo visitors, groups, couples, and strangers who become friends over shared tables.

05

Filipino Warmth

Rooted in the Philippines, designed for the world. We bring the warmth and hospitality of Filipino culture to every branch — the kind of warmth you can taste in the food and feel in the space.
